Because they are so dumb.
A heinous crime occurs against two random cops, simply because they’re in the wrong place at the wrong time (also because killer cops murder people for no reason and get away with it, and then the cops parade around antagonizing protestors about how black lives don't matter and I can breathe and all that, but let's leave that alone for now, shall we?).
What a great opportunity! What a chance for the lowest of the low, the scum of the earth – the murdering pigs of the NYPD, and their judicial enablers – to actually garner some sympathy from all corners, were they to accept it with graciousness.
They don't, because they're dumb thugs.
It's sad really.
